congratulations to phelps for his 8th gold and team singapore table tennis double for their first ever olympic silver medal.

the 4 by 100m medley relay was impressive! usa set a new world and olympic record which were previously held by them. they went below the world and olympic record by 1 secs. lezak finished the race well despite strong competition from the australia contender. during the victory ceremony, phelps received a plaque of commendation and special mention of him winning his 8th gold. no mean feat but this guy did it!

the next highlight was singapore vs china, table tennis double. china was the hot favourite and they delivered the first women double gold medal. china won 3 in a row and beat singapore in the double. during the singles, china lost the first set and claimed subsequent sets to seal victory for the first and second match. i guess the china used the first set to observe the opponent's weaknesses and then make a come-back at the second set.

now that all the great matches are over, i guess there will be lesser attention on olympics for myself. another 9 more days or so to the end of beijing olympics. a lot of world records and olympic records are set this year and this could probably be attributed to the world-class sporting facilities provided by the host country - china. incredible.
