have been a hectic week. commitment at work and commitment out of work. even though, there's always time for the newspapers! a time to connect with the world, stay on track with progresses.
i read with disgust an article which shed light on the hideous face of humanity. it sets me thinking how bored people can get after attaining monetary security. this boredom drives them to act in a way i deem unethical.
money makes the world go round but it should not to be the case where it results in the degradation of humanity. not a case where it banks on the exploitation and humiliation of our fellow man.
in short, it was actually an advertising campaign where the 'contestant' had a mission to complete. if he succeeds, he gets the money worth a million dollar.
here's the criteria one has to fulfill before he/she can be considered for the reward.
The Battlecam.com Million Dollar Challenge rules include:
1.The individual has to be completely naked when executing the stunt
2.Battlecam.com should be written on front of the individual's chest
2.Battlecam.com should be written on front of the individual's chest
3.The individual should shout out "Battlecam" six times
4.The individual must be within eyesight and earshot of the president
5.And finally it must upload or broadcast live on Battlecam.com
yes, right in front of President Obama. and yes, a guy did it. though he claimed that it wasn't within earshot or eyesight of the president but he attempted the feat right before the president. on the newspaper, it was said that the nearest he got was 3m away from president Obama. he was then arrested by the police.
a billionaire made this offer. this attractive one million dollar reward to complete the above mission. this is downright humiliating and insulting. tapping on people who are desperate for money, is this desirable?
i shall furnish you with the reason why the man did it. it is definitely because of the monetary returns and more so because his sister is hospitalized and money is exactly what he needs to foot the medical and hospitalization bills. just because he has no means to come out with the money, he has to forgo his dignity and risk being charged in court.
at the end of the day, it's for the sake of promoting a live TV. click here to read the article, not the ST one but this is good enough.
i am appalled at the above incident. perhaps a case of differing values but personally i feel strongly about it. it is definitely not in line with what we have been preaching. how long will it take for the annihilation of humanity? at this rate, i guess it won't be long.______________________________________________
on a more postive note, my students made my day (night) today (tonight). was going through an english multiple choice and here's the question:
I spend a lot of time at the ________ whenever I visit Changi Airport. I love to watch the aeroplanes take off"
1.hangar 2.runway 3.viewing gallery 4.information counter
So i asked a girl for the answer and her answer was darn hilarious! cute ttm! she answered 'runway'. the image of her standing on the runway to watch the plane take off surfaced immediately. i must have vivid imagination!
so the class burst into laughter including myself. feeling indignant, she called out to a boy and insisted that he should not laugh at her because everyone makes mistake. meanwhile, the teacher was laughing uncontrollably in front of the class.
he did attempt to conceal his amusement by blocking his face off with the question papers!
